What You'll Do

We are looking for a hands-on Accountant with 3-4 years of experience in an accounting firm (practice) to join our Hinxton office. This is a highly operational role, suited to someone who enjoys being close to the numbers and involved in the day-to-day financial processes, while also contributing to monthly reporting and group requirements.

Key responsibilities

Day-to-Day Accounting Operations

  • Post and review journal entries (accruals, prepayments, payroll, intercompany)
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial data
  • Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations

Accounts Payable (Suppliers)

  • Manage supplier invoices: review, coding, and posting
  • Prepare and execute payment runs
  • Monitor supplier balances and collaborate with budget owners to resolve discrepancies
  • Ensure proper approval workflows are followed

Accounts Receivable (Customers)

  • Issue and track customer invoices
  • Monitor accounts receivable ageing
  • Lead collections and collaborate with sales team to follow up with clients to ensure timely payments
  • Reconcile incoming payments and investigate variances

Month-End Close

  • Support monthly closing process (cut-off, accruals, reconciliations)
  • Prepare supporting schedules and analysis
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data

Compliance & Reporting

  • Assist with VAT returns and statutory filings
  • Support year-end accounts and external audits
  • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP / IFRS where relevant

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls
  • Contribute to the implementation or optimisation of finance systems

What We’re Looking For

Experience:

  • 3-4 years of experience in an accounting firm (practice) in the UK, strong exposure to bookkeeping and financial reporting.
  • Experience with multi-entity environments, ideally exposure to intercompany accounting & experience with ERP systems (e.g. Xero, HubSpot).

Hard Skills:

  • Part-qualified or newly qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
  • Good understanding of end-to-end accounting processes (AP/AR/GL)
  • Strong Excel skills: experience with accounting tools is a plus

Soft Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, operational role
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset
  • Good communication skills, especially for supplier/customer interactions
